The charity helping northern state students reach our best universities

Do you often find yourself asking ‘why’? Do you like figuring out how things work? Do you want to take part in the debates that shape the world around us?

If so the Linacre Institute is for you.

Your main reason for wanting to come here should be because you are intellectually curious. You will place existing knowledge in the broader story of the evolution of ideas, making links to other areas of thought. You will master areas beyond the A Level curriculum. You will learn how to justify your thoughts orally and critically assess ideas. And you will be part of a community that loves the things you love.

If you join us you will be taken on an amazing journey in the sixth form. You will be invited to a residential school in the heart of London, where you will stretch your horizons intellectually and outside the classroom, with workshops at Parliament and other inspiring places.

A second residential takes place in August in Cambridge. You will work with teachers and mentors who have exceptional records in helping able students like you develop and achieve their goals. Many have guided more than 60% of their Oxbridge candidates to winning offers, against a national average of 20%.

You will receive intensive help in the university applications process, from mentors with outstanding academic records.

You’ve changed the way I view myself, my future, and my love for literature. I’ll never forget a moment of it.

Student from Wakefield

They gave me practice at talking about intellectual debates and having my views challenged which never really happens at school level.

The universities can seem kind of distant - you don't know how the process is going to work. If there's someone telling you what to expect it makes the whole thing a lot easier.
